Knox-Box®

Where access to or within a structure or an area is restricted because of secured openings or where immediate access is necessary for life-saving or fire-fighting purposes, the Rochester Fire Department recommends that this should be installed for emergency access by Fire or Police Personnel. A Knox-Box® key box should contain a set of keys, codes, or RFID Fobs to unlock or gain entry through all exterior and interior doors. Any other items are up to the property owners’ discretion.
The key box provides for non-destructive emergency access to the property or non-emergency access to the property with the property owner’s permission.  Property owners are notified any time the key box is accessed.  Master keys are securely located in each fire apparatus and are only removed by the officers’ discretion.
